Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has denied claims that he has resigned from his position as governor.
Sonko on Tuesday said a letter purportedly written to the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker confirming 'his' resignation is fake and should be ignored.
The letter has been making rounds on social media especially Facebook.
"My attention has been drawn to a fake letter dated 23rd July addressed to the Speaker of the County Assembly ostensibly communicating my resignation as the Governor of Nairobi citing various pedestrian reasons for the same," the county chief responded on his official Facebook account.
"I am steadfast and loyal to my supporters and cannot make such an impulsive and cowardly decision without consulting my party hierarchy. I urge my political nemesis to stop using this archaic tricks and await the coming elections which I will all floor them. We should exhibit mature politics instead of sideshows and useless innuendos which are short-lived."
Sonko has been under pressure to perform at the city county following his fallout with his deputy Polycarp Igathe who resigned on January 12th citing frustration at City Hall.
The pressure was so immense that Sonko on May 18 relocated and began running City Hall affairs at his Machakos home claiming his life was in danger.
Sonko and Igathe had been at loggerheads from the time they were sworn into office. Igathe accused Sonko of running City Hall affairs without his involvement.
