Sandra Mong'ina Ongeri is Nyamira County's best student in this year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Sandra, a former pupil at St. Andrew Kaggwa Girls in Borabu scored 432 marks out 500. She was just eight marks shy to beat the national top scorer.
According to the school's headteacher, sister Caroline Kerubo, the stunning outcome was as a result of hard work and trust in God.
"We are celebrating these results this year because we had faith and trust in God and also our pupils and teachers went and an extra mile in working hard. We really appreciate what God has done to us," said the school head.
By the time of going to press, the school had received results of 17 girls who had scored over 400 marks.
Eronge Adventist mixed primary, also from Borabu, which topped in last year's examination managed to produce its top student with 428 marks.
Esther Mweresa was the top scorer in the school. The school's head, Kefa Bwana attributed the good results to the pupils and the staff who he said were dedicated to ensuring the school does well in the national exam.
"All this is the work of God and hard work among our candidates and the whole staff. We are very satisfied", said Bwana.
Already, 40 pupils had surpassed 400 marks by the time of going to the press.
Over one million pupils sat for the examination countrywide.
