Police in Murang'a county are holding a Member of County Assembly (MCA) over fraud allegations.
Kanguini ward representative Peter Mburu Muthoni was on Monday arrested after allegedly tricking and conning a woman Ksh3 million.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a report that the accused duped the woman that he would offer her a tender to supply ballast.
The suspect also reportedly faked his identity, terming himself an 'Engineer' and 'senior staff' at the company originating from China, and forged papers to convince his victim.
“The suspect together with others he had introduced as an ‘Engineer’& a ‘senior staff’ at the Chinese company forged an agreement for the supply of ballast and in the process they defrauded the victim the said amount,” the DCI said, according to the Citizen Digital.
The detectives have also launched a manhunt for two other suspects they believe were also involved in the crime.
The MCA is set to be arraigned on Tuesday to face charges of forging documents and fraud.
