Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has weighed in on how soccer in Kenya can be improved.
Speaking on K24 just hours before the Harambee Stars faced the Desert Foxes of Algeria in Cairo, Egypt, the former vice president congratulated the Jubilee administration for what it had done for the Kenyan football team but went on say that more could be done to improve soccer in the country overally.
He called on the professionalisation of football, changing of laws to support football and give tax rebates to organisations supporting football in the country.
"But if we want to develop a long-term policy, we need to look seriously about professionalising soccer in this country so that we can be ranking within the premier league approach.
"And these are things we can do if we adjust our laws appropriately and we also give sufficient incentives to organisations that can support football, " Musalia Mudavadi said.
Mudavadi's remarks came amid great excitement over Kenya's involvement in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 15 years.
The Harambee Stars lost their debut match against Algeria after conceding two goals at the 30, June Stadium.
They face the Taifa Stars of Tanzania on 27, June.
