In an article published by the Standard on Tuesday, the businessman narrates how he personally employed Kuria in his bank in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in early 2006.

He claims that just for his desire to employ a fellow Kenyans in the bank he was setting up, he tore up an initial contract he had signed with a Saudi to create room for the vocal leader.

He says that he was impressed with Kuria on the first sight and decided to employ him despite not having any experience, which saw him clash with his (Shahbal) manager.

"I retorted that neither did he (manager), yet I had taken the risk to promote him. Was I wrong? I tore up the contract to the Saudi company and signed a new one for the Kenyans," he says.

He also delves into Kuria's political journey that would begin a few years later and his mode of politicking which has seen some people question his mental stability.

According to Shahbal, Kuria, a fluent Arabic speaker, has always stood out with regards to his behaviour, but is not insane but only unique.

"To the rest of us, he was a disturbed man. But he wasn’t singing to us. He didn’t care what we thought of him. We were not his audience," he further writes.

According to Shahbal, Kuria's shift from incitement and reckless remarks to facts is proof that he is on the right track and is maturing politically.
