Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has given his views on why the National Assembly did not channel more funds to counties in the proposed budget.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Monday, the Soy legislator argued that the budget for counties was not manageable, adding that there were no funds for the same.
In the budget estimates, county governments were allocated Sh316 billion by MPs instead of the Sh327 billion which senators had initially demanded.
“We as the budget-making body in the country we looked at the projection, realities, and what is possible and we cubed the budget at Sh316 billion which according to us was manageable,” said Kositany.
"Our brothers in the Senate did not agree with us, but going forward we shall find a solution because if we give counties Sh327 billion, and they won't receive it, the treasury will not meet that target then we will be lying to county governments where they will prepare budgets that cannot be realised,” said the Jubilee MP.
He further noted that as the National Assembly, they don’t have ill intentions because they fully support devolution and they are also working to improve the welfare of Kenyans.
