A chief in Rateti, West Mugirango in Nyamira County has assured that police officers are still hunting down a woman who dumped a 1-year-old infant in a pit latrine on Sunday.
Livingston Mabuka said despite that the infant is responding well to medication at hospital, the woman is still at large.
"Detectives are doing everything possible to bring the culprit to book. Members of the public are advised to report to police any woman who was pregnant, gave birth but, now the baby is missing," he said.
Mabuka assured residents that he won't condone women to dump babies.
"No one forces women to conceive pregnancy and therefore, there is no valid reason a woman can give birth and dump the infant. The law will not spare such women turning themselves beasts," he stated.
The administrator lauded residents who managed to retrieve the infant from the toilet.
"I'm happy because residents responded quickly to save the infant from the toilet. It is high time parents should advise their children more especially daughters not to dump babies when they give birth," said Mabuka.
