King Kaka, also popularly known as Rabbit in a tweet says he recently came across a heart-breaking story in which a class six girl revealed to him how she fell in love with a boda-boda rider since she could not afford to buy sanitary towels for her menstrual periods.

The motorcycle rider occasionally bought the pads for her in exchange for sex.

The rider, he says, took advantage of the young primary school pupil's poor background to sexually abuse her in exchange for the sanitary towels.

"I met a girl in class six (12 years) who said that she is in a sexual relationship with a Boda Boda guy who is married but purely for pads and she has encouraged other girls to follow the trend," the artist said.

"70 percent of girls in rural areas miss school during their menstrual window. Make this a basic need."

His call came about one year after similar stories were shared by primary school girls in Busia county last year when they revealed how they engage in sexual intercourse with men who qualify to be their fathers in exchange for sanitary towels.

Similar cases have been reported in volatile counties of Tana River, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, Kajiado, Turkana and Narok.
