More divisions have emerged among leaders from Coast region over Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 State House bid.
Two MPs on Monday said Coast MPs in support of Ruto have gone against the wishes of their electorate and insisted they will be 'punished' at the ballot when 2022 comes.
Teddy Mwambire (Ganze) and Omar Mwinyi of Changamwe said the MPs' support for Ruto is personal and should not be interpreted to mean it applies for the people of the entire Coast region.
"The MPs are insincere and their political future now lies in the hands of the people of Coast," Mwinyi told local Swahili newspaper Taifa Leo.
The lawmaker said voters in the region are firmly in ODM and other NASA-affiliated parties.
Mwambire on his part said MPs from the region supporting Ruto's presidential quest are selfish and should be rejected by voters.
"During the campaigns last year, they said they belong to the opposition. We did not know that their plan was to get elected then cross to the other side," he said.
Among MPs from Coastal region who have vowed to support Ruto's bid to replace President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House is outspoken Malindi MP and opposition chief Raila Odinga's close ally Aisha Jumwa.
