Ruto has since raised suspicions following his remarks in Kakamega on Saturday, insinuating that the Western Kenya region owes him for backing Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi's ascend to the Deputy Prime Minister seat in 2008.

Speaking on NTV's AM Live early Tuesday, Amollo defended Ruto who told the region to help him convince Mudavadi to back his 2022 presidential bid, saying that he was simply endorsing himself.

"It was nothing personal between him and the people or Mudavadi, Ruto was simply asking for votes. He never said that Mudavadi owes him anything," he said.

He rubbished claims that anybody or any community owes the Deputy President in the first place, saying that he would be the last to be repaid even if the same was the case.

According to Amollo, the political debts would have to be paid from the first to the last, adding that the sequence would have to begin from 1963 when Jaramogi Oginga backed Jomo Kenyatta's leadership.

"If political debts were to be paid then Ruto's would be the seventh one and would have to wait. We would have to start from Jaramogi," he added.

Ruto is also reported to have an agreement that the Mount Kenya region will back him for supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta's 2013 and 2017 bids.
