Raila Odinga's faith on loyalists was tested on Saturday when he was tasked to explain why he has gone mum over continued detention of businessman Don Bosco Gichana.

At Gusii Stadium, a rather displeased Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati demanded that Raila explains why he has delayed to fulfill his promises over the detention.

"It is quite sad that Prime Minister you promised to have him out but until now, nothing substantive has happened.

"These people are not happy and you have to work very fast. We need to see promises being fulfilled," said Arati.

Mr. Don Bosco, a former ally to Odinga, was detained in Arusha prison over money laundering and fraud but is yet to be charged.

In 2016, Raila promised to have him released by President John Magufuli but that is yet to happen, with Odinga calling for patience.

"I hear you and I know what freedom means. Give me a little more time," he said, admitting that the matter is an elephant in the room.

Throughout Raila's 2007 campaigns, Don Bosco, who would later switch allegiance to DP William Ruto, featured prominently.

The famous Hammer that Raila used in campaigns was reportedly donated by him.
