Following President Uhuru Kenyatta's weekend fireworks that were seemingly directed at team Tanga Tanga, a renowned political commentator Dr Wahome Waiganjo has revealed that despite his anger, he has no option but to support his deputy William Ruto come 2022.
Speaking on Thursday morning at Coro FM, Wahome stated that it would be a political blunder for Uhuru to propose for constitutional amendments by way if referendum to lock out DP Ruto from presidency come the next general elections.
He further added that Uhuru, in his pre-election deal with Ruto in 2013, had promised to support him upon the expiry of his term.
"Uhuru has no option but to support his deputy in 2022. Much has been said of impending constitutional changes by way of referendum. It is a risky affair for Uhuru, if he plans to retain power," Dr Wahome said.
He also opined that by way pf referendum, Uhuru should ensure that the changes do not lock out Ruto. Otherwise, he said, Uhuru will have killed the future of aspiring presidents from the Mt Kenya region.
"Uhuru's decision to dump or support DP Ruto in 2022 is a do or die for future presidential aspirants from Mt Kenya. It will determine politicians will, in future, back aspirants from the region," he added.
As it is at the moment, President Uhuru is yet to declare stand in 2022 succession politics, but critics say he could make a surprise endorsement other than Ruto.
