A Monday morning newspaper headline by The Star caused agitation in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party after alluding to a possible fallout between the party leader and Siaya Senator James Orengo.
The Star carried a story title 'Uhuru visit triggers Raila-Orengo rivalry', attracting ridicule from the ODM party inner circles over what the party termed as nonsensical reporting.
ODM party Communications Director Philip Etale took issue with the media house arguing that the story, claiming a possible breakup between Senator Orengo and Raila Odinaga, was keen on exciting a clique of politicians.
According to Etale, Senator Orengo and Raila still enjoy a cordial relationship and as such the reports were inaccurate and unfairly packaged in a fictitious way.
"The Star has for some time now been dwelling on imaginary stories targeting the ODM party and its leadership. This is pure fiction and careless style of journalism aimed at exciting a section of the political divide. The party leader Raila Odinga and Senator Orengo enjoy cordial working relationship," stated Etale in a statement shared through his social media pages.
Senator Orengo also took it to his Twitter handle to dismiss the newspaper's headline. He described the coverage as "a planted story to create a narrative that can only find traction in feeble and gullible minds."
"I know the source and how it was crafted and fed to selected purveyors of lies and evil designs," reacted Senator Orengo.
The ODM party shared details of the story on social media, dismissing its prominence as in the image below;
