Mombasa County is home to great talent in spite of the terrorism tag and the drug menace that has taken lives of many young people.
Amidst all this, football still remains to be one of the most loved sports in this Coastal city.
Young men and women from this region have several local talent worth emulating. Here are two footballers making history in football on the international scene.
1. Amos Ekhalie
Amos Ehkalie is a talent from Mombasa that has curved out his space in European football. The 29-year-old footballer joined Finland’s IFK Mariehamn that competes in the Finnish Veikkausliiga.
The midfielder secured this move back in 2014 and later earned a cap with the national team during a friendly game against Liberia played on 15 November 2016.
2. Handwalla Bwana
Handwalla Bwana is enjoying his time in the United States of America playing in the Major League Soccer. Born in Mombasa city in 1999, Bwana had to relocate to Kakuma Refugee Camp for six years.
Fortunately, his family was resettled in Atlanta, the USA in 2010. They were later moved to Seattle where he joined Ballard High School then later, 2015, Seattle Sounders FC Academy.
He moved up the ranks and was able to play his first MSL game on March 18, 2018, against FC Dallas.
