Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has called for a speedy probe into the mysterious murder of Rongo University's second-year student Sharon Otieno.
Ngilu wants police to hasten the probe and bring the culprits to book.
Addressing the press in Kitui town on Friday, Ngilu said the deceased's killers must be punished.
“It is sad that a young life with so much promise can be terminated by cruel people,” Ngilu said.
Ngilu said she will join other leaders in pushing for Otieno’s justice.
“Let those involved in the murder whether big or small be arrested and taken to court,” Ngilu added.
She said Kenyans are tired of senseless murders whose perpetrators are never brought to book.
“Our investigative agencies have often let us down because there are so many unresolved murder cases,” she said.
Otieno’s body was discovered on Wednesday morning, two days after she was abducted.
The deceased who is said to have been seven months pregnant was abducted alongside Nation reporter Barack Oduor.
Oduor managed to escape.
Police have intensified Otieno’s killers even as it emerges that the student could have been raped before being killed.
