Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and his sister Risper Nyagoy on Thursday suffered a blow in the ongoing court battle pitting them, and their nephews.
The two groups have been involved in a property wrangle involving the division of an estate left behind by the Governor’s late father Hesborne Shimei Nyong’o.
The court ruled in favor of the opposing group, ordering that they be fully included in the division of the multi-million shilling estate, reported the Daily Nation in a tweet on Thursday.
The two teams were appearing before High Court Judge Justice Cherere for the second time after failing to sort the issue out of court.
Nyong’o’s nephews Geoffrey Omondi and Kenneth Odhiambo earlier in the year sued the Governor and Nyagoy of excluding names of other beneficiaries in the inheritance list.
Mr Shimei died on November 10, 2006, but left no will on how his estate was to be subdivided among his family members, prompting the group led by Omondi and Odhiambo which was under his care then to seek a portion of his wealth.
The estate located in Miwani, Kisumu County is estimated to be worth 200 million shillings.
Mr Shimei also left behind a parcel of land along Jogoo Road in Nairobi on which flats are standing, and other pieces of land in Manyatta, Tamu, Milimani, and East Ratta in Kisumu.
