Uhuru is expeted to land in Kisumu on Thursday, December 13, for the official launch of the Universal Healthcare Coverage.

But a number of leaders want him to venture outside the plan, with Nyando lawmaker Jared Okello urging the President to consider the region's limping sugar industry.

He stressed on the need for the government to push for the settlement of the debt it owed sugar farmers and aid in modernizing the factories.

“Farmers should be given what belongs to them. The factories should have modern machines," he told Sunday Nation.

On his side, Muhoroni lawmaker Onyango K'Oyoo urged Kenyatta and his host opposition leader Raila Odinga to personally tour some of the falling factories.

This way, he said, they will get the actual situation on the ground, and take the right measure in salvaging the factories which heavily contribute to the country's economic stability.

Onyango urged the Head of State to help the companies back to their feet by writing off the debts they owe the government.

“Millers should be revived. The two leaders should come to Chemelil and Muhoroni and revive the factories as that will have long-lasting benefits on the region and locals,” he said.

He also called upon Kenyatta and Odinga to stop at nothing in their unity and national cohesion campaign.

Uhuru is also expected to tour other parts of the Luo Nyanza region before wrapping up his visit.
