President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday was rewarded by Namibia over his role in governance and democracy.
Kenyatta was conferred the county’s highest award of honour according to his social media account.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta was today conferred Namibia’s highest award of honour, the Grand Master of the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis, by his host President Hage Geingob for his contribution to democracy and good governance,” Kenyatta wrote on Facebook.
The head of state was in the country for Namibia’s Independence Day Celebrations.
“Today I had the honour and pleasure of joining my friend and brother H.E. President Dr. Hage Geingob and the wonderful people of Namibia in their country's Independence Day celebrations. I paid tribute to the selfless contribution of Namibia's liberation heroes including the late Kaptein Hendrik Witbooi, the late Chief Hosea Kutako, the late Andimba Toivo ya Toivo, the late Anna Mungunda, H.E. Hifikepunye Pohamba, and the founding father H.E. Sam Nujoma,” the post added.
President Kenyatta urged African Nations to strive to build and entrench peaceful, democratic and prosperous societies where people can realize their full potential.
Uhuru said the future of Africa is in the energy of its youth.
“African leaders must pay attention to the dreams and aspirations of our young people by creating a conducive environment for them to flourish. They are the reason our forefathers fought for self-determination,” the head of state said.
