Arsenal football club on Tuesday gave special recognition to Carilton David Maina who was killed in Kibra last year by a police officer.
Eulogizing the ardent Arsenal supporter, the club noted, "We were very sad to hear the recent death of Arsenal Kenya member, Carilton David Maina - aged just 22.
"Born in Africa's biggest slum, Kibera, Carilton excelled academically, winning a scholarship to study engineering in Leeds which enabled him to visit his beloved Emirates Stadium to see his heroes," Arsenal added.
The club noted how Maina adored the club and used to watch every match he could.
"He was also a talented player, recently a youth goalkeeper for Gor Mahia FC and was also a TEDx presenter, role model, future leader and was loved by all. Our thoughts are with Carilton's family and friends," stated the team.
Maina was said to have been walking home in Kibera, Laini Saba area after watching a football match when he was killed. He was reportedly in the company of three other friends although he was the only one who was shot.
Witnesses had explained that the deceased was shot in the stomach, chest, and face as he crawled to his mother’s house after surrendering and pleading for his life.
Maina was home for the December holidays and was due to fly back to England, where he was a student at Leeds University taking a course in Electronic engineering.
Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) had stated that investigations into the murder had begun but no arrests had been made. National Police Service (NPS) had noted that they would respect the orders that will be issued by IPOA.
