Speaking Monday night on NTV's Sidebar, Macharia Gaitho branded Jeff Koinange as a showman who loves to light fires by inviting controversial guests.

Mr Gaitho said that Jeff was more in the business of entertainment than educating.

"When you invite Governor Sonko, you can expect anything. Jeff is a showman who loves to light fires. While the business of the media is to inform, educate and entertain, Jeff is in the business of entertainment. That is why he has a fire extinguisher so that he can extinguish the fires he lights," Mr Gaitho said.

Gaitho's remarks come in the wake of a raging debate on how journalist's ought to handle live interviews.

Jeff Koinange's interview with the flamboyant Nairobi County boss was abruptly terminated over "editorial control concerns."

The prime-time interview was characterised by salacious revelations that saw Governor Sonko tear into Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris who was away in Canada at the time.

Esther Passaris arrived in the country on Monday and addressed the allegations that had been made by Sonko against her, calling the governor a liar.
