Six governors may find it very easy to retain their seats in 2022.

The six have an advantage over their opponents eyeing for the same posts because of their excellent development records or are so close to the centre of power- President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga that they will find it easy to be re-elected.

They include Kisumu's Prof Anyang Nyong'o, Kirinyaga's Anne Waiguru, Joseph Ole Lenku (Kajiado) Kenneth Lusaka (Bungoma), John Lonyangapuo (West Pokot) and Kiraitu Murungi (Meru).

The county chiefs are first time leaders who are expected to defend their respective seats in 2022.

Waiguru and Nyong'o, despite being close to Uhuru and Raila respectively, were also recently voted as among the top performing governors (third and second positions) out of the 47.

The pack was led by Makueni's Prof Kivutha Kibwana who will not be defending his seat as he is serving a second and final term.

The other four, Kiraitu, Lonyangapuo, Ole Lenku and Lusaka, from the time they were elected seem to be facing little opposition, and if this goes all the way until 2022, it may turn out to be easy for them to lead their respective counties for another five years.

These arguments have been made with the assumption that all the six governors will seek re-election.
