Five students were arraigned in court and charged in connection with the fire that gutted down two dormitories at the Chulaimbo Boys Secondary School in Kisumu West Constituency on Saturday night.The five appeared before Maseno Senior Principal Magistrate Reuben Kipng’eno on Monday.They were jointly charged with burning two dormitories at the school, namely Omino and Owira that were serving 300 students.A report by Citizen Digital indicates that the five were released on a cash bail of Sh30, 000 or an alternative bond of Sh100, 000 each. The court was told that the accused willfully and unlawfully set on fire the two dormitories valued at Sh5 million. The case will be mentioned on July, 23, 2018, with the hearing set for August 28, 2018.The arrest and charging of the students follows a warning by Education Principal Secretary Dr Belio Kipsang that pupils who destroy school property during riots will be treated as criminals.On Sunday, the Department of Criminal Investigation Department (DCI) warned that all students at all levels of education who engage in unlawful activities while in School will have it rough once they get out of school.The DCI warned that students' criminal activities will have a big bearing on their out of school life in future.
