Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to work closely with Kenya following his victory for the second term in the world's largest democracy.
In a tweet, the Indian Prime Minister hailed former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga following his congratulatory message after last week's poll victory.
"Thank you for your kind words @RailaOdinga. India values the partnership with Kenya and we will continue to bring our two countries closer for mutual benefit," he said on a tweet on Sunday.
Modi was first elected in 2014. During this month's elections, his party BJM party managed to scoop over 300 seats in a parliament of 564 members.
Last week, Raila hailed India for conducting peaceful elections, adding that the Asian country has always set the bar high when it comes to embracing democracy.
"I take this opportunity to offer a message of congratulations to Prime Minister @narendramodi for his big win and to the people of India for the peaceful and credible poll that, as always, was a test of endurance and belief in democracy," he said in a tweet.
Last year, Raila toured New Delhi where he discussed with Modi the possibilities of importing cotton from Nyanza region as a way of expanding the economy of the region.
India has practised a parliamentary system of government for many years, a system which Mr Odinga is keen to have introduced in the country before 2022.
