They will be seen before matches assembling and ready to go cheer their team during matches. The biggest match in their calendar is when they face their perennial rivals, AFC Leopards.

They gather in different areas hours before the match and match in the streets on their way to the venue.

In 2014, however, they came together for a different reason; helping one of their own in the name of club defender Solomon Nasio.

Nasio broke his nose while playing for Gor against Karuturi Sports in Naivasha, a match they won 2-1. Nasio needed Sh150,000 for his surgery, which he could not afford.

“My attempts to get help from the club have been futile as the management has been avoiding me. They promised to help but nothing has been done so far,” Nasio had said.

“It has been a difficult time for me. I was injured in a club assignment but I’m yet to get any help. I’ve been in and out of the Kenyatta National Hospital for check-ups and this is becoming unbearable for me. The doctors recommended corrective surgery last year but I’m yet to undergo the procedure due to lack of money.”

But the army came through for one of their own, who thanked them for their help.

“I am humbled, with no words to explain my joy. I give thanks to the Daily Nation and everybody who ensured that I am able to have this operation, Gor Mahia fans will always have a special place in my heart” explained Nasio when he spoke to the media back then.

This support group also includes a fan base from as far away as the USA, France, UK, Dubai, Qatar, Germany and even Brazil who follow the club activities online and are all too happy to contribute towards any initiative.

Like them or hate them, Gor Mahia fans remain special in their own unique way.
