Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Nganga Mutua has poured cold water on the much talked about handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
Appearing on the JKL Show on Citizen TV on Wednesday, Dr Mutua said that Kenyans need money in their pockets, and not the celebrated handshake.
He said that the only thing that can bring peace and stability in this Country is Kenyans having money and living a comfortable life out of poverty and lack of basic needs
“The handshake has nothing to do with peace and stability. If Kenyans had money in their pockets we would not need the handshake. People do not fight when they are rich,” he said.
He went ahead to state that most African governments are overthrown because a big section of the population is poor.
Mutua further insisted that reports of governments being overthrown in Europe are rare because many people are rich and do not need to be in government in order to be financially stable.
President Kenyatta and Odinga buried their political hatchet via a handshake on March 09, 2018.
The handshake has been praised by a section of Kenyans for having cooled political temperatures in the Country but another section feels the handshake has led to instability in the ruling Jubilee Party led by the President and his Deputy.
