Emerging details indicate that opposition leader Raila Odinga was not around during the birth of his eldest daughter, Rosemary Odinga.
Making the revelation during Rosemary’s 41st birthday at the Deep Riding School in Spring Valley last weekend, Odinga’s wife Ida Odinga revealed according to the Standard, that the former Prime Minister was away watching a soccer match.
He said that Raila left her at the hospital to attend a match pitting the Kenya Premier League side Gor Mahia, a team which he has since adopted as its patron.
“It was a Saturday and Gor Mahia were playing. He left me in the hospital to go watch Gor Mahia play. When he came back, Rosemary was born,” she says.
Rosemary would later follow in her father's footsteps after announcing her bid for the Kibra parliamentary seat in last year's polls. She, however, but dropped out after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
She was operated on at Nairobi's Aga Khan Hospital before flying out to South Africa for further treatment.
Raila's other children include the late Fidel Odinga who died in 2015, Raila Odinga Junior and Winnie Odinga.
