On January 15, terrorists attacked 14 Riverside Drive. One of them was a suicide bomber, Mahir Khaluid Riziki, who blew himself up outside Secret Garden Restaurant located in the complex.
According to police reports, Riziki schooled in Mombasa at Bhadala Secondary School but dropped in 2011 while still in form one.
Bhadala Secondary School was built in memory of Mr. Mohammed Adam Thaim. Construction of the institution started in July 2007 and was completed in November 2008. Muslim Bhadala Jamat led by Mr. Haji Shiraz contributed the funds.
The Board of trustees of Muslim Bhadala Jamat appointed Mr. Arvind Naghinbhai Gajjar as the maiden principal. He retired in 2010 and handed over to Mr. Vincent Obunga.
The institution’s vision is to prepare the youth for national and global challenges that face young people.
“Our students learn in an environment in which their care guidance and support is a central philosophy for our teachers. Their interests and aspirations, the development of their personalities and characters and above all their sense of having fulfilled themselves are key to the instincts of all staff and the Management Committee of Bhadala school and the community at large,” reads part of the Principal, Vincent Obunga's welcoming message on the school's website.
