Duale says that the Finance law will enable the government to raise money to fund development projects and crucial services to Kenyans.

Speaking during a graduation ceremony at Sisters Maternity Home (SIMAHO) college in Garissa on Saturday, Duale said that the Finance law was passed with the interests of Kenyans in mind.

Duale notes that the government cannot purpose to punish Kenyans through high taxes.

"The Finance law aims to guarantee development and service delivery to Kenyans contrary to what some politicians are saying," he said on Saturday.

Duale hit out at some politicians who he accused of misleading Kenyans.

He said that some politicians have been using the Finance law to seek popularity.

Duale said that he does not regret pushing for the bill to pass and signed into law.

The Garissa Township MP has been on the spot over the Finance law that came into force a week ago.

The Finance law imposes an 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel and petroleum products.

A section of MPs who are opposing the law has threatened to initiate an impeachment motion against Duale and National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi for allegedly using tricks to have the law passed.

The MPs led by Stephen Mule (Matungulu MP) says that they will fight the Finance law in court if the impeachment plan flops.

Duale has laughed off the impeachment threats, saying it will not see the light of the day.
