On 16th February, city lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo took his relationship with Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru a notch higher through a traditional engagement in a "no-photo" event.
Lawyer Kamotho had done what Kikuyu custom requires, paying dowry, paying for the locked gate to be opened then identifying his love among women who had covered themselves to look similar to his love, Standard reports.
The rumours about the two being lovebirds have been going on for a long time, typified by Kamotho representing Waiguru in many court cases.
Mr Kamotho and Governor Waiguru opened up on how their love story started to the Standard.
It started 10 years ago when the two were travelling to a constitutional conference in Mombasa.
While in a ferry at Likoni, they shared a meal of soda and bread, that made Kamotho realize she was just a basic girl.
As days passed by, Kamotho requested for a date, and after long hesitation, she submitted and they had their first date at Thai Restaurant in Nairobi.
The date did not go well as Kamotho said his soon-to-be wife was always busy on phone, Waiguru admitting she had not known how to balance work and private work at the time.
They later agreed to keep phones away while they are together, unless absolutely necessary, and from her admission, she is improving lately.
They have gone through ups and downs during their dating time, Kamotho says when Waiguru was being implicated by NYS scandals was one of the worst times and he had no option other than to man up and defend his woman.
The fact that Waiguru is more of a public figure and more famous does not worry Kamotho, from his words, provided love is there, that's all.
"My advice to people in public life is to separate work and family, and make family a priority," Waiguru said.
A few weeks ago, Kamotho made the bold move and proposed to Waiguru at Lord Eroll hotel in Runda, Nairobi.
Governor Waiguru said she was surprised as they had not been talking about formalising their relationship, although shy she said yes because she knew her man who is her words is very grounded and with deep faith in God.
