Mr Mahanga told journalists that his absence from the public limelight had nothing to do with his relationship with county officials but was fueled by his poor state of health.

On Friday, his absence during the funeral of Obado’s mother-in-law at Kadika area within Migori town stood out as a sore thumb with pundits claiming there was a looming fallout.

During the funeral, the mention of Mahanga was hushed and his seat was taken by ODM leader Raila Odinga's wife Ida with a section of the public claiming there was a political fallout.

For months, apart from few appearances in his Kuria community, Mahanga has kept away from his office and official functions.

During the Friday funeral, Obado took a swipe at leaders who skipped the function for always fighting him and constantly undermining his administration.

In Migori, only Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and Awendo MP Walter Owino were present, Senator Ochillo Ayacko, Women Representative Pamela Odhiambo and seven legislators were absent.

Kemege said Mahanga started missing from county functions after it was feared that with corruption and murder charges facing Obado he was poised to take over.

He pointed out that with recent attack from Kuria leaders led by Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama and nominated MP Dennitah Ghati against Sh516million World Bank project, have seen Obado’s support wane in Kuria.
