Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has been requested to ensure police officers harassing bodaboda riders in Nyamira and Kisii counties are dealt with accordingly.
Kisii County Deputy Governor Joash Maangi argued that police officers found harassing riders and demanding for bribes must be sacked, arrested to face the law.
"Matiang'i's reforms in the police force should start by kicking out rogue officers using shortcuts to earn a living. Those demanding for bribes and harassing riders on our roads need to be sacked, arrested to face prosecution," he stated.
He appealed to bodaboda riders not to accept to give bribes to police officers who are eligible to monthly salaries.
According to Maangi, the bodaboda sector has helped in creating more jobs for youths who could have been idling in the villages jobless.
Maangi maintained that police instead of harassing riders who have not complied with the set traffic rules, the security officers should educate the riders in the two counties on the importance of compliance.
"Police should not see bribes as the only option while discharging their duties. Riders need to be sensitized on the need to comply purposely to curb accidents," he added.
He was speaking on Friday when he met with bodaboda officials from Gucha Sub-County.
