Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has called upon the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to speed up the investigation process and smoke out the culprits behind the Gikomba fire incident.
Mr Sakaja, in a letter addressed to the DCI boss on Thursday, noted that many fire incidents have occurred in the city and especially at Gikomba market.
The market has been on the spotlight for four fire cases in less than 8 months.
He recommended those found culpable to face the full force of the law.
"I am writing to request your office to institute immediate thorough investigations and form a special team to find out the actual causes of these fires," reads Sakaja's letter in part.
He further noted that the fire incidents at Gikomba market have been normalized which is quite unfortunate for traders.
"The manner and frequency of these fires is suspect and the number of lives and value of property lost cannot be assumed or wished away," said Sakaja.
According to the, Regional Coordinator William Thuku, the fire started in a timber yard and quickly spread through the structures in the market.
At least 15 people have been confirmed dead while more than 60 were injured in the fire that broke out at about 2.30 am. In the meantime, the silence of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has raised a debate.
Details of where he is remain scanty but residents want answers as several leaders have condoled with the victims and called for through investigations and measures to prevent recurrences.
