Luo Nyanza is known to vote as a block during elections, the opposition leader Raila Odinga, being the beneficiary since the mid-1990s.
However, with Odinga's apparent dilemma on whether or not to vie again, the region could be forced to vote for another person come 2022 who could not be emanating from their region.
Here are the politicians who would get direct support without having to struggle, with Raila's endorsement.
1. Hassan Joho
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is widely accepted in most parts of the nation, Luo Nyanza included.
In a region which rates politicians basing on their closeness to opposition leader Raila Odinga, its kingpin, Joho is qualified for the vote.
He has remained a close and loyal ally of the veteran politician and his defacto point man in the coastal region in his 2 previous presidential bids.
This would earn him an automatic backing of the region should he stick to his 2022 presidential ambition.
2. Musalia Mudavadi
The ANC party leader also enjoys massive admiration among Luos, judging by his soft mode of politicking.
Never at any point has he been heard viciously attacking or insulting any leader leave alone Raila, and has not always been heard attacking Luo Nyanza even after his recurrent disagreements with Odinga.
He has also repeatedly downed his presidential bids in 2007 and 2017 to support Raila's, meaning that he would have it very easy getting the Luo vote in 2022, with Raila's endorsement.
This also has everything to do with the Luo-Luhya friendship brought about by their closeness, intermarriages and historical and cultural relationships.
Were he to endorse another politician, especially the ones who have always been against him, Raila will have to spend extra energy selling them to the Luo Nyanza electorate.
