Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, on Sunday September 2, sent happy birthday message to former retired President Daniel Arap Moi, as he turned 94.
The governor joined Kenyans and several leaders in wishing Mzee well, after leading Kenya for 24 years shortly after founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's death in August 1978.
Below is Joho's message to Moi.
"As the saying goes, youth is a gift of nature but old age is a work of art.
To H.E Daniel Arap Moi, happy birthday Mzee. You played a key role in fostering peace, love and unity amongst Kenyans.
You have also set standards of dignity for our leaders when they leave public office.
May the Almighty God continue blessing you with good health to celebrate many more years to come."
Moi's birthday come days after Joho visited him at his home in Kabarak, Nakuru County on August 25.
"I was fortunate to hear his wisdom on some national issues and thanked him for his time at the helm of this country," disclosed Joho, who seeks to vie for presidency in 2022.
Flanked by various leaders from the coast of Kenya, Joho was welcomed by Senator for Baringo, Gideon Moi.
Pundits said the visit could see Joho deputise Gideon Moi in the race for State House in 2022.
