Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party blogger Dikembe Disembe has insisted that the party is not and has not been in the opposition since the new constitution came into existence.
In a tweet Wednesday, he said that the constitution doesn't recognise any opposition, and the party should not, therefore, be compelled to belong to the nonexistent section.
He argues that the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led block is just the largest party among those on the minority side, and should not be considered an opposing side.
"There is no opposition in Kenya’s constitutional order. ODM is the largest party among parties forming the minority. And, so that we are clear, we are not in Opposition," he said in a tweet.
This comes at a time when the party has found itself under pressure from Kenyans and politicians, most pushing it to retake its oversight role.
The party was initially known as a vicious critic of the Jubilee government and repeatedly condemned the government on myriad issues.
However, the same ended immediately after Raila's March 2018 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta, after which some members have been claiming that they are also in the government.
