There was drama in Kisumu on Tuesday after Homa Bay County Nominated Ward Reps attacked a number of elected Members of County Assembly (MCAs) over claims that they were planning to secretly pass the budget.
The Nominated MCAs attacked their elected counterparts, threw stones at them, forcing them to leave the hotel where they were.
“We won’t allow our colleagues to pass a budget that is not public friendly. We will only pass programs that are in the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP),” Kevin Onyango, a nominated MCA said as quoted by Nation.
The allegations were, however, dismissed by Maurice Kaluoch, the county Director of Communication who noted that they were baseless.
He further noted that no MCA had been bribed by the County Government to pass the budget.
“The governor should be kept away from assembly issues. The executive played its part and presented the budget before the assembly in time.
“There are around 40 MCAs. If you were to pay them Sh3 million each to pass the budget, it would cost him Sh120 million, where is the cash going to come from?” posed Mr Kaluoch as quoted by Nation.
