Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero broke his silence early this week amid devastating claims that his administration was complicit in the misappropriation of public money and the plunder of public coffers.
Mr Kidero, while speaking to the media, contended that the allegations were part of a wider political scheme to soil his name, terming them cheeky and accusing his detractors of jumping into conclusions.
He maintained that any transactions that he was directly involved in were in accordance with the laid down procedures.
''You do not jump into conclusions that money was embezzled,'' he said.
His remarks come amid clamour from various quarters to have him investigated and charged with corruption.
Nairobi County has been in the spotlight in the past over alleged embezzlement of public funds.
When he assumed office, the current Nairobi governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, claimed that the county's funds had been embezzled.
It would be interesting to see how things pan out for the former Mumias Sugar Company supremo.
