Fatuma Zarika also known as the ‘Iron Fist’ has been the talk of the town since her victorious win against Zambian boxer Catherine Phiri in a match held on Saturday night at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Although Zarika has been in the spotlight for a while now, some aspects of her life are still a mystery to the public. 

Here are some things you did not know about this Kenyan star.

1. Her real name and age

Zarika whose real name is Zarika Njeri Kanghete was born in March 1985 in Nairobi County. She grew up in Riruta estate before moving to Mathare North later on after her mother passed away. 

Her parents, Kang’ethe and Aisha Separated when she was barely 7 years old.

2. She is a primary school dropout

Zarika was born in a very humble background that was struggling to make ends meet. This made it impossible for her to continue with her secondary education. After completing primary school, she was forced to look for odd jobs in order to help in providing for her family.

3. She was a teenage mother

Zarika conceived and delivered her first-born daughter Sophia on June 12, 1997. At the time, she was approximately 17 years of age. 

The boxer, however, is currently a single mother to two beautiful girls, Halima and Sophia, after she separated with their father who is only known as Said Omar.

4. Her brother plays for Gor Mahia

Zarika has only one sibling Musa Mohammed who is younger than her. Musa is also making it in the sports sector since he currently a footballer who plays of Gor Mahia FC as a defender.
