President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned state officers against hiding in their tribes to divert public funds meant for development into their pockets.
Uhuru while addressing a mammoth crowd in Kisii County on Wednesday said he will not spare individuals stealing public resources to enrich themselves.
"Those people hiding in their tribes to steal public funds should know when they will be arrested, their tribe won't be considered. I thief is a thief irrespective of where he or she comes," he said.
Mr. Kenyatta said he will not fail to deliver to Kenyans because of few individuals stealing money meant for development.
"I will not allow anyone to drag me behind in terms of development. Funds meant for development across the country should be used wisely and appropriately. Those who will be caught stealing must face the law with fear or favour," said the Head of State.
He appealed to elected leaders to put development first.
Uhuru warned government employees against blackmailing the national and county governments through unnecessary job boycotts.
"The money we have is for development but, not rising people's salaries," he added.
