A primary school headteacher in Migori County is nursing injuries after allegedly being beaten up by an irate parent on Friday.
Trouble is said to have started when Maeto Primary School headteacher in Kuria West Constituency Esther Njige allegedly send home some pupils bring a tin of maize.
The maize was to be used to get flour in order to prepare porridge for the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) pupils of in the school.
According to the headteacher, the parent arrived at the school while angry demanding to know why his son was sent away.
“The ECDE children had been sent home to bring maize for porridge as agreed amongst parents. So that parent came and asked teachers why children were sent home,” said Njiige.
“I intervened by telling the parent that if he does not have the maize he can go back home then I will see another day. That is when he slapped me so hard; I found myself down bleeding heavily,” he added.
The unidentified parent then disappeared.
Paul Girwa, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kuria West branch Executive Secretary condemned the incident and urged the police to ensure that the parent is arrested and brought to book.
