The Kenya Wildlife Service has issued an alert after eight lions were spotted in the area north of Lake Naivasha.
Maella MCA Gathariki Kamanu said KWS officers were informed by motorists using the Moi North Lake Road who spotted the stray lions.
It is believed that the big cats killed livestock in Soysambu and Eburru in recent weeks as the presence of lions in the area has caused panic among residents.
The MCA has called on KWS to take quick measures to capture and return the lions back to the park.
“KWS officers were informed by motorists who sighted the lions. Lives of school-going children are in danger if the lions are not trapped and relocated,” said Kamanu.
Hellsgate National Park warden Peter Lekeren who confirmed the reports said that KWS has dispatched a team of officers to locate the eight lions that are suspected to have strayed from Lake Nakuru National Park.
“We are working round the clock to recapture the stray lions and return them safely in Lake Nakuru National Park,” said Lekeren.
Members of the public have been asked to be cautious and to inform KWS officers if they spot the lions.
