Former Garissa county finance CEC Idris Muktar is battling for his life at a city hospital after being shot in the head on Sunday evening by unknown assailants.

Muktar had gone for evening prayers at a Hurlinghan mosque, when the unfortunate incident occured.

He currently admitted at the Intensive Care Unit, with reports from a close family member indicating that a bullet is still lodged in his head. 

"It is true that Idris Muktar was attacked on Sunday within the environs of Hurlingham mosque. A bullet is still lodged in his head and medics are working on the clock to remove the bullet," said a source within his family.

Preliminary reports indicate that the attack was organized by some political gangs out to eliminate him.
