Mr Duale said legislators from the party cannot engage in the debate to reduce the number of elected seats without an approval from the president.

The Garissa Township MP in a tweet said the legislators are only focused on the president’s Big Four Agenda.

He said that Jubilee Party is waiting for direction from its leader, President Kenyatta, before participating in a referendum to amend the Constitution.

“Jubilee Party will not be involved in the debate about reducing the number of electoral seats until it gets direction from President Uhuru Kenyatta. Our prime focus is on the Big Four Agenda,” tweeted Mr Duale.

Mr Duale sentiments come after Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot launched an online campaign dubbed ‘Punguza Mizigo’.

The campaign seeks to reduce the number of legislators from the current 416 to 194 in a move aimed at reducing the amount being spent in parliament.

He said that the change in Constitution will also address overrepresentation by reducing the number of members of the National Assembly.

The former Presidential candidate has commenced collection of required one million signatures in order to change the Constitution.
