Germany has become the latest victim of the curse after they lost two of their three group stages games to finish last in group E in the world cup in Russia.

Warning shots of the curse striking were fired as soon as the third day of the tournament when the defending world champions lost to a stubborn Mexico by a single goal from Hirving Lozano.

Germany needed a last-gasp piece of magic from Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos to silence Sweden after they struggled in a big part of the match.

Joachim Low's woes continued after two stoppage-time goals from Kim Young-Gwon and Heung-min Son gave South Korea their first ever win against Germany.

The defeat eliminated Germany from the world cup after just three matches for the first time since 1938.

France suffered the same fate in 2002 which was followed by Brazil’s embarrassment in 2006; Italy followed suit in 2010 and finally Spain in 2014.
