Newly appointed African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Raila Odinga once against revisited his botched journey to State House at his Kakamega stronghold.
In the presence of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila explained why he decided to work with the government after a divisive electioneering period in 2017.
"Mimi najua hapa kuna wafuasi wangu wengi sana. Tulijaribu kufika Canaan mwaka jana lakini hatukufanikiwa.
"Tulipofika Jordan, tulikuta mamba wengi. Ilibidi tujenge Daraja na wana Jubilee ndo tufike sisi wore," said Raila as Uhuru kept laughing.
Raila had a failed forth stab at presidency in August 2017 and he saw the Supreme Court nullifying President Uhuru Kenyatta's victory in his favour.
Even though he did not run for the repeat, Uhuru would later on mend fences with him, a move that has brought relative calmness in the country.
Chairperson of AU Commission Mousa Faki hailed Raila's decision to accept the new roles, which were silently lobbied by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
