The political climate in the nation seems to be changing as the 2022 general election approach.
Consequently, realignments are in the making as politicians, especially presidential aspirants, join the sides they consider likely to be beneficial to their bids.
Among those expected to participate in the race are Deputy President William Ruto, opposition leader Raila Odinga and Amani party leader Musalia Mudavadi.
Others are Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and the youthful Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.
In the group is a team of likely hopefuls who are however unlikely to succeed, including Odinga who is growing weaker by the day.
The Orange party leader has failed in his last four bids, making him a perennial loser to some Kenyans and a discouragement to voters.
On the other hand, he has lost parts of most of his previous strongholds to the ruling Jubilee Party as was seen in the 2017 election, where sections of the Coast and Western regions voted for Jubilee and its candidates for the different elective slots.
Also in the list is Ruto, who despite being in government since 2013 has not been beneficial even to his tribesmen who are lamenting of poor and delayed maize pay.
His name has as well featured in graft dealings and scandals, a negative as Kenyans try to push out the graft menace.
He has also made many enemies courtesy of his pride and loose tongue.
Mutua will also have it very hard ascending to the top post as apart from his gubernatorial slot, he is not known to have participated in any campaign of national benefit.
Unlike Raila who participated for the push of multiparty democracy in the 80s, Mutua remains unknown to many Kenyans.
His young age will also be a blow to him as Kenyans seek an experienced leader capable of leading them effectively.
This leaves the race in the hands of the remaining candidates.
However, what will happen, only time will tell.
