The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has expressed concerns over a myriad of policies that the ministry of Education has been introducing in the country.
Kuppet national vice chairman Julius Korir says some of the policies being introduced will plunge the country's education system into 'chaos'.
Speaking at the Eldoret National Polytechnic on Wednesday during the ongoing 23rd Kenya Technical Institutions Sports Association (Ketisa) games, Korir asked the Education Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohammed to be cautious when introducing new policies.
He termed a recent directive on learning hours in schools to be between 8:00 am to 3:30 pm as surprising.
“I am very surprised that the ministry has reduced learning hours for students, as teachers we have no problem as it will give us more time to relax but we want to caution the CS that such moves will bring problems in this country,” said Korir.
“This issues of policies left and right will hurt our education system. One day they speak of same uniforms, another day same books and so on and so on,” he added.
This comes after the Education CS earlier this week directed all primary and secondary schools to adhere to the official operating hours for all day public or private institutions.
She said any arrangement where learners have classes before 8:00 am or after 3:30 pm is banned.
