A man has pleaded guilty to charges of defrauding an unsuspecting member of the public in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
Alex Mwaita was arraigned in an Eldoret Court on Monday.
He is accused of defrauding Elijah Kipchirchir Sh54,000 with a promise of securing him a job as a K24 correspondent in Mombasa.
Police arrested him on Sunday in Eldoret town after Kipchirchir filed a complaint with them.
Mwaita appeared before Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa.
According to the prosecution, the suspect posed as an employee of K24, a television station belonging to MediaMax Network Services Limited and promised to secure a job for Kipchirchir, only to be realized later that he was a fraud.
The crime was committed within Eldoret town on July 20, 2018.
Appearing before the Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa, the suspect pleaded guilty to the charges but asked the court to be lenient with him saying he was a student.
The court ordered that the suspect be remanded until Friday when a ruling will be made after receiving a report from the probation department confirming whether he is a student or not.
