Residents of Nyakongo in Kisii County were left in shock after a 27-year-old man was found dead by the roadside on Tuesday morning.
Kisii County Assistant Police Commander Caleb Matoke said the deceased, Joseph Mogere hailed from Marani sub-county.
Matoke said Mogere was an intern at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
"The deceased according to family members completed his nursing course from Kenya Medical Training College Kisumu Campus in April this year and he was absorbed as an intern at KTRH on May, 1," he said.
The commander said the deceased rented a house at Nyakongo area within Kisii town one week ago.
"He was found dead on Tuesday morning by passersby near Nyakongo Pentecostal Assemblies of God church gate. Police officers were called to the scene to pick the body," he noted.
Matoke stated that the body of the deceased had no visible injuries.
He said Mogere might have been drunk by the time he met his death since the scene had a strong bout of alcohol.
The body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
