Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has issued a stern warning to his staff saying he will not spare anyone found engaging in corruption.
Governor Sonko says that he has invited detectives to carry out audits on specific departments over allegations of corruption.
The Jubilee governor said that he has no time to negotiate with corrupt staff.
“Kila mtu atabeba mzigo yake iwe kubwa au ndogo (Everyone will carry his or her cross whether small or big,” the Nairobi governor told journalists on Friday.
Governor Sonko stated that he will not allow graft to taint his development agenda.
He revealed that audits relating to former governor Evans Kideros’ projects are ongoing.
Sonko said that his government will work closely with investigative agencies to tame corruption.
On Friday, the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered for arrest and prosecution of Nairobi County Assembly Clerk Jacob Ngwele, deputy clerk Adah Onyango, Principal Account Philomena Nzuki, Senior Procurement Officer James Kaguma and Senior Finance and planning officer Fredrick Mwangi over questionable tender to supply books amounting to Sh997, 926.
Also to be arrested is businessman Raphael Maluki who owns the Primara Ventures.
The DPP said that the county officials procured for the books in the 2016/2017 financial year which were never delivered yet payments were made.
The suspects will be arraigned in an anti-corruption court on Monday.
